NLC's Journey
Share
- I was born in March 1996 into a family with three children in the beautiful country of Ghana, where I spent my childhood in the eastern region. After my parents separated, I spent some formative years living with my mother, who possessed various vocational skills, including sewing. Inspired by her, I learned some basic sewing techniques during that time. Later, while in junior high school, I chose to pursue vocational studies as a complementary course that focused on sewing.
- After high school, I faced financial challenges at home and prioritised my sister's education over my own due to our family's limited resources. After a year, I moved to the capital to seek financial support, eventually receiving help from my older brother, which allowed me to enrol in university.
- Throughout my four years in college, I struggled financially, often resorting to wearing affordable outfits made from traditional kente and Ankara fabrics. My mother made my first piece, which my classmates admired, leading me to create and sell similar outfits to support myself. As demand grew, I collaborated with friends to produce larger quantities for both classmates and external orders.
- I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and chose to dedicate myself to developing and expanding my clothing line. While it wasn't going to be easy, my passion and vision were strong enough to keep me motivated. I partnered with several business marketers in Ghana, the USA, and the UK, which led to my designs being sold in these countries. Media platforms and event organisers reached out to help promote the brand. Although the journey has been challenging, we have made significant progress.
- I relocated to the UK to establish a depot for the brand, fulfilling a long-held goal, especially since we have built lasting relationships with many of our customers here. We aim to continue serving our community by offering the finest African clothing and striving to achieve our goals and mission.
